In 1999 Katsu Taguchi won the Asia Pacific Rally Championship. The Japanese driver snatched the win at the last moment from his countrymen Yoshihiro Kataoka.
Six young drivers from around the world have triumphed in the Pirelli Star Driver Global Shoot-Out, which finished on 24 October in Salou, Spain. Pitted against 10 other drivers, the winning six will become part of the FIA’s young driver programme which, next year, will be integrated into the newly-created WRC Academy.
The Asia Pacific Rally Championship has released its provisional calendar for 2011, six full status events starting with Malaysia in April. The APRC then heads to the Southern Hemisphere for three Pacific rallies in Australia, New Caledonia and New Zealand. After New Zealand its a 8500 kilometre journey to Japan's northern island of Hokkaido and the final event scheduled for China early November.
Twenty-two year old Australian, Brendan Reeves, will represent the Asia Pacific region at the 2010 Pirelli Star Driver (PSD) shootout to be held at Rally Spain from October 21 to 24.
