A JAMES Bond movie stunt driver and an up-and-coming auto electrician stole the show with an enthralling finish to the International Rally of Queensland on the Sunshine Coast today.
Mark Higgins, a three-time British Rally Champion who was a stunt driver in the film Quantum of Solace, won round two of the FIA Asia Pacific Rally Championship on his first attempt at the event.
Proton have won their home event with Australian Chris Atkinson taking victory in the APRC Malaysian Rally. Driving a factory backed Proton Satria Neo S2000 Atkinson had an untroubled run to victory winning the event outright against one of the strongest fields seen for many years.
The FIA Asia Pacific Rally Championship is the region's premier rally Championship and the 2011 season will see 11 drivers competing in 6 rounds starting in Malaysia this weekend (1-3 April).
Reigning champion Katsu Taguchi from Japan, returns to defend his Crown with the MRF Tyres Team driving a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 10. Long-time friend and co-driver Mark Stacey will return to the APRC and call the notes for Katsu.
As the close off date approaches there are now 18 confirmed drivers registered to compete in one or more of the Asia Pacific Rally Championship competitions. As entries for Pacific Cup are not required until April 21 this number is expected to grow further.
Congratulations to Japan's Katsu Taguchi on becoming the 2010 Asia Pacific Rally Championship drivers champion and Australian Glenn MacNeall who is the co-drivers champion. Both Taguchi and MacNeall will pick up their trophies next month at the FIA Prize-giving ceremony in Monaco.

All the major APRC teams at 2010 China Rally leave the event with a result, MRF Tyres win the APRC drivers championship, Cusco the Asia Cup and Proton get a 1-2 podium.
MRF Tyres team take the major prize with Japan's Katsu Taguchi winning the 2010 Asia Pacific drivers championship. Joining the Japanese driver in Monaco for the annual FIA prize-giving will be Glenn MacNeall, co-driver for MRF driver Gaurav Gill. Chris Murphy has partnered Taguchi through the season, all except Malaysia when the Australian was stuck in the UK by the Iceland volcano that caused airline chaos during the month of April. Because he missed this event Murphy had less points than MacNeall.
